Chance is a 5 th generation Merle Schnauzer. He originated from crossing a
Miniature Schnauzer with a Miniature Aussie. This cross was made to introduce the
merle gene into the breed. It is then extended by always breeding each generation of
offspring back to a full Schnauzer. With each generation breeding the percentage of
Schnauzer gets greater and the Aussie less until it vanishes. The only thing that
remains of the Aussie is the beautiful merle color and occasionally the blue eyes.
The Merle's come in an array of colors including, but not limited to blue, chocolate,
wheaten and parti.
Chance's puppies will be the 6 th generation from the original cross. At generation 5
they are as close to a full schnauzer bloodline as they can get.
The Merle Schnauzer is registrable, but it is not registrable with The American
Kennel Club. Most Merle Schnauzers are sold with Limited Registration and
require spay or neuter contracts.
